personal website – designed!

April 28, 2009

I then created this.

I feel that it is very geeky, so therefore explains me quite well!

i wanted to keep the colours very flat and retro.

I have added my name in brackets, making look as if my name were part of a code. the brackets can also be used to cycle thought the site.

There is a sleeve on the left to help you understand which part of the website you are in. this chances colour appropriately.

I divided the content into three sections. I felt this left enough space to fill with content, and is also a nice amount of room to divide sections up.

i have put text on the right as i like the idea of the user viewing the images first, then the writing (going on the principle that naturally people read/ look from left to right).

Below is a short description of my most recent project completed. It has little pictures which can be expanded once clicked on. I have left and empty grey patch to give the impression that things are in progress. I also found that when it was filled in with white, it felt too static (especially when there is nothing in it).

This idea of three container runs thought the design.

I have worked hard to make it all rich content, so that search engines can read it. I have also made sure it works well with old versions of all the browsers. I have also made sure thereĀ  is no flash, therefore more accessible (however i am thinking of creating a flash based webstie too).

i have also made sure all images are of small size so that loading time is a minimal. So far, although i dont have too much content at the moment my whole website takes up only 650kb! therefore very quick to load!

I have also created a little fav icon, which i feel works quite nicely as its round.

Personal website – insparation

April 28, 2009

i stared looking around for inspiration.

I really liked this site for its very simple yet affective tabbing system. i really like it how its nice and colorful and simply gives the user a sense of where they are in the website, and where to go!

http://mac.softpedia.com/progDownload/WordPress-Download-7693.html

however i do find that the information above the tabs is a little confusing. It plays with the idea of different depths, which i like however i kinda get the feeling that the main content floats a little too low.

i also liked this design. I feel that its nice and playful. The way that it is designed enables me to add new content very simply. I also like the really like the grey/brown background. i feel that it gives the whiter tables a clean feeling.

I also like the way that the images are placed at the top of cards and then info displayed below. this format feels very natural to read and display.

although really like this design, i feel that it is perhaps a little to sporadic. i think i like the idea of these cards, however i think i will have a more uniform layout.

This next site is similar to the previous in that it has the same kind of card system. however i really like this one because it has a nice brown menu bar cutting though it all. i feel this really helps catch the eye, which in turn helps with the navigation. I also feel that they have used the space above and blow the menu well, unlike the first website. everything feels alot more connected, i think this is down to keeping to one level, rather than having any perspectives.

Altough this next site is fairly cluttered i really like it how the tabs at the top set a layout.

I feel that by creating the boundaries within to place content, it has really helped. The user knows where the content is going to be shown, therefore displaying the content for what it is, without any distractions.

The red rollover buttons really help define that its a button too.

I now have to take this insparation and hopefully use it on my website.

Personal website – what to put on

April 28, 2009

After i collected all the work that i wanted to display, i then started deciding what information i wanted to show on the site. And also the accessibility of it.

Below the content that i wanted to put in. also the category that it lies under.

Home – links to other parts of the website. preview of latest work produced, within this would be a main pic and little pictures which can then expand to size of screen. Short description about me and my work.

contact – phone, email and status of what i am up to and availability.

work – three sections, one being a big picture summing up project. Another being a load of thumb nails which expand to full size. Another section with short description of the brief/ how i went about making this work and what for and possible a link to a blog with further description/ visual sketchbook.

links – people i know, things i like or am associated with.

Personal website – start

April 28, 2009

I had to create a website in a rush, as i wanted to have a site up and going in time for the progression exhibition .

i wanted the site to reflect my character. I then started looking for inspiration for my work.

I found many sites that i liked, however i then realized that it was more important to sort out what the content is first, then start considering style.
